Here's the thing to know about Glucovance (glyburide and metformin): guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and that gel can grab onto these pills in your gut and slow down how much of the medicine actually gets absorbed. We've seen this with metformin in real studies, not just lab guesses, though the effect is usually modest. If less of your diabetes medicine gets in, your blood sugar could run higher than you'd expect.

The easy fix is timing. Take your Glucovance first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum supplement, and drink plenty of water with the fiber. Food amounts of guar gum aren't a big worry. Before changing anything, check in with your pharmacist or doctor, and keep an eye on your blood sugar readings.

Here's the gist for your Glucovance, which pairs glyburide with metformin. Guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and when it coats your gut it can slow down how much metformin actually gets absorbed. A small study in healthy people showed exactly that. Less metformin getting in means it may not lower your blood sugar as well, so you could see higher numbers than you expect.

This isn't a dangerous reaction, just a possible loss of effect. A simple fix many people use is to space the two apart (take your guar gum a couple of hours away from your medicine), but please run the timing by your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your blood sugar readings.
