Here's the thing to keep in mind with guar gum and your sodium valproate (Epilim). Guar gum turns into a thick gel in your stomach, and that gel can slow down or trap medicines you swallow, so a little less of your dose may actually get absorbed. Valproate isn't a prodrug, so this doesn't change how it works once it's in you. The worry is simply getting less than your full dose.

For a seizure medicine, that matters, because even small dips in your levels could let seizures slip through or affect mood control. The simple fix most folks use is timing: take your valproate first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the guar gum. Please run your exact schedule by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
