Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Pseudoephedrine
Chlorpheniramine, Pseudoephedrine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Guggul interacts with.
In vitro research shows that guggul constituents known as guggulsterones can induce CYP3A4.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
This combo product pairs chlorpheniramine (an antihistamine for sneezing and runny nose) with pseudoephedrine (a decongestant). Guggul contains compounds called guggulsterones that, in lab and animal studies, can speed up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Since chlorpheniramine is partly handled by that enzyme, the theory is that guggul could clear it out a bit faster, possibly making the allergy-relief side feel weaker than expected.
I'll be honest with you: this is mostly test-tube science, not something proven in people, so the real-world effect is probably small. Pseudoephedrine isn't a prodrug and works largely on its own. If you notice your allergy symptoms aren't well controlled, just mention the guggul to your pharmacist or doctor.
