Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers can increase the toxicity of the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents of hound's tongue.
Hepatotoxic PAs are substrates of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

Here's the thing to understand about this pairing. Hound's Tongue carries pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are compounds known to damage the liver. The liver actually has to process these into their harmful forms using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Rufinamide (Banzel) can speed up that very enzyme, so in theory it could push your body to make more of the toxic byproducts faster, raising the strain on your liver.

I want to be honest about how solid this is. This concern comes only from lab and animal data, not from people, so it's theoretical. Still, Hound's Tongue is risky enough on its own that I'd steer clear of taking it internally. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it in any form, and don't change your seizure medicine on your own.

Rufinamide — available as Banzel and generic rufinamide — is used as an add-on treatment (alongside other seizure medicines) for seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe type of epilepsy that usually begins in childhood and causes multiple types of seizures.

This indication applies to both the tablet and oral suspension forms, for pediatric patients 1 year of age and older as well as adults.
