Hound's Tongue + Elagolix Sodium
Elagolix Sodium brand name: Orilissa.
Hound's Tongue has a moderate interaction with Elagolix Sodium. Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers can increase the toxicity of the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents of hound's tongue.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS
Why this applies to Elagolix Sodium
Elagolix Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Hound's Tongue interacts with.
Hepatotoxic PAs are substrates of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the twist with this pairing: it isn't really about your Elagolix (Orilissa) levels at all. The concern flows the other way. Elagolix can nudge up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and that same enzyme is what turns the pyrrolizidine alkaloids in Hound's Tongue into toxic byproducts. So in theory, taking them together could speed up the production of those liver-damaging compounds.
I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern built on lab and animal data, not real patient studies. But here's my plain take: Hound's Tongue can harm the liver on its own, and that's reason enough to skip swallowing it. Since Orilissa already gets watched for liver effects, don't combine them. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Elagolix Sodium page
“The list of supplements that interact with elagolix sodium (Orilissa), a pill taken daily for endometriosis pain, is one I would read carefully, starting with its three major entries. Grapefruit can raise elagolix blood levels by blocking the liver enzyme that clears it, inviting more side effects.”

About Hound's Tongue
What is Hound's Tongue?
- Minor wounds and skin irritation
- Coughs and sore throat
- Hemorrhoids
- Burns and bruises
- Diarrhea
Hound's Tongue is a traditional folk remedy used mostly on the skin and for coughs, but there is little to no reliable human research showing it works. More importantly, it contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids that can seriously harm the liver, so internal use is generally discouraged. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it in any form.
