Indian Cassia and Phendimetrazine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Phendimetrazine and Indian Cassia in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Phendimetrazine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Phendimetrazine is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Indian Cassia has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and diuretic drugs (moderate) — and none of Phendimetrazine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Phendimetrazine’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Indian Cassia. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Phendimetrazine’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 2 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Pain or burning when passing urine Worth acting on
  • Raised blood pressure Worth acting on
  • Tremor or shakiness
  • Flushing
  • Sweating
  • A fast or pounding heartbeat
  • Anxiety or restlessness
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Constipation
  • Stomach pain

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Phendimetrazine. Read the label on DailyMed › Indian Cassia’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Indian Cassia side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Indian Cassia has no side effects.

Overlapping uses

What Phendimetrazine Is Prescribed For, and What Indian Cassia Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Phendimetrazine is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Indian Cassia is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Phendimetrazine is prescribed for: Phendimetrazine tartrate is used to help manage exogenous obesity (excess body weight from outside causes like diet and lifestyle) as a short-term addition to a calorie-restricted diet. It is intended for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher when other risk factors — such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol — are also present. It is approved for use as monotherapy only, meaning it must not be combined with other weight-loss drugs or stimulants. Both the tablet form and the extended-release capsule form are approved for this purpose.

    Indian Cassia for diabetes

Preliminary clinical research shows that taking Indian cassia dried leaf, 10 grams three times daily for up to 3 months, lowers fasting blood glucose levels to 100 mg/dL or less in about 50% of patients with diabetes. However, the patients in this study also followed a reduced carbohydrate diet. Therefore it is unclear if the improvement was due to Indian cassia, the diet, or the combination.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Phendimetrazine on your own; if you are taking Indian Cassia for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

This page covers Indian Cassia only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Phendimetrazine page lists 17 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Phendimetrazine page

“Of the 17 supplements on file for phendimetrazine, an appetite-suppressant stimulant prescribed short term for weight loss, activated charcoal is the one that demands real caution. Charcoal binds medications in the gut and can sharply cut how much of a drug your body absorbs, leaving you with less appetite control than your prescriptio…”

About Indian Cassia

What is Indian Cassia?

  • Flavoring food
  • Digestive upset
  • Blood sugar support
  • Cold and cough relief
  • Antimicrobial

Indian Cassia (Cinnamomum tamala), also known as Indian bay leaf or tejpat, is an aromatic leaf used widely as a cooking spice and in traditional medicine across South Asia. Human evidence for its health benefits is very limited, so it is best enjoyed as a culinary spice rather than relied on to treat any condition. Used as food it is generally well tolerated, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements or oils.

Cinnamomum tamala · Lauraceae · Leaves (often called tejpat or Indian bay leaf) and bark · Whole dried leaves used in cooking, powder, tea, and essential oil

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Indian Cassia is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Indian Cassia record says about it on its own.

Indian Cassia: dosing

There is no established standardized medicinal dose for Indian Cassia. As a spice, people use small amounts of the dried leaf to flavor cooking, which is the most common and best-understood use.For capsules, powders, teas, or oils, follow the directions on the product label, since strength varies between products.
