Hydroflumethiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Indian Cassia interacts with.

Theoretically, Indian cassia might increase the risk of potassium depletion in patients taking diuretic drugs. However, this has not been shown in humans. Indian cassia leaf extract 200-400 mg/kg body weight has shown mild diuretic activity in animal research. The effect of Indian cassia on urine volume and electrolyte loss was similar to that of furosemide. Until more is known, use with caution.

Here's the simple version. Hydroflumethiazide (Saluron) is a water pill that already pulls fluid and some electrolytes, especially potassium, out of your body through your urine. In lab and animal studies, concentrated Indian cassia extracts acted a little like a diuretic too. So the worry is that, in theory, stacking the two could push potassium a bit lower than the medication does on its own.

I want to be honest about the evidence though: this has only been seen in animal research, not in people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Using bay leaf to season your cooking is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're thinking about concentrated cassia capsules or oils, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and mention any muscle cramps, weakness, or irregular heartbeat.
