Here's the simple version: your Capozide already lowers your blood pressure in two ways. Captopril relaxes your blood vessels, and the hydrochlorothiazide pulls extra fluid out through your urine. Indian snakeroot contains reserpine, which independently lowers blood pressure too. Stack them together and the effect can pile up, pushing your numbers down too far.

What that might feel like is dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when you stand up), tiredness, or even fainting. The water pill can also drop your fluid and salt levels, which makes that risk a bit bigger. Reserpine can also bring on low mood or depression. This concern is mostly theoretical, but it's a real ingredient with real effects, so please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
