Why this applies to Cryptenamine, Methyclothiazide

Cryptenamine, Methyclothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Java Tea interacts with.

Some preliminary clinical evidence suggests that Java tea has antihypertensive effects. Further, animal research suggests that Java tea has diuretic properties. Theoretically, taking Java tea with other antihypertensive drugs might increase the effects and risk for hypotension with these drugs.

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Diutensen combines cryptenamine (a blood pressure lowerer) with methyclothiazide, which is itself a water pill. So you're already taking something designed to drop your blood pressure and increase urine flow. Java Tea is thought to do a little of both: early research hints it may gently lower blood pressure and act as a mild diuretic. Stack them together and those effects could add up.

What that might look like in real life is feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when you stand up quickly, plus more trips to the bathroom and possible dehydration. Keep in mind this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these things work rather than strong human studies. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your medicine on your own.

About Java Tea

What is Java Tea?

  • Urinary tract health
  • Mild fluid retention
  • Kidney and bladder support
  • Mild diuretic ('water pill') effect
  • Digestive complaints

Java Tea is a Southeast Asian herb traditionally used as a gentle diuretic and for urinary tract and kidney support. Some early lab, animal, and small human studies are encouraging, but high-quality evidence in people is limited, so it should not replace proven treatments. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have kidney problems or take other medicines.
