Some preliminary clinical evidence suggests that Java tea has antihypertensive effects. Further, animal research suggests that Java tea has diuretic properties. Theoretically, taking Java tea with other antihypertensive drugs might increase the effects and risk for hypotension with these drugs.

Here's the simple version: Spironolactone is a water pill that lowers blood pressure and helps your body shed extra fluid, while holding onto potassium. Java Tea is thought to have its own mild blood-pressure-lowering and diuretic (water-losing) effect. So if you take them together, those effects can stack up. In theory, you might see blood pressure that drops too low, leaving you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when standing up quickly.

I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how each one works rather than strong studies in people, so it's not a reason to panic. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and let them know if you notice dizziness or feel run-down. Don't change your spironolactone on your own.

About Spironolactone

What Is Spironolactone Used For?

Brand names: Aldactone, Spiroton, Carospir

Spironolactone tablets and spironolactone oral suspension are used to treat several conditions. Both forms treat NYHA Class III–IV heart failure with reduced ejection fraction — helping patients survive longer, reducing fluid buildup, and lowering the need for hospitalization. Both are also used as add-on therapy for high blood pressure when other medicines aren't enough, and to manage fluid buildup (edema) in adults with liver cirrhosis.

Spironolactone tablets (including Aldactone) are additionally approved to manage edema in nephrotic syndrome (a kidney disorder causing protein loss and swelling) and to treat primary hyperaldosteronism — a condition where the adrenal glands overproduce the hormone aldosterone — both before surgery and as long-term therapy for patients who can't or won't have surgery. The oral suspension is not approved for nephrotic syndrome or primary hyperaldosteronism.
