Here's the gist: karaya gum is a bulky fiber that swells into a gel in your gut. When you take any swallowed pill like entrectinib (Rozlytrek) too close to it, that gel can trap or slow the medicine, so a little less may get absorbed. This is a theoretical concern based on how fiber laxatives behave, not something proven specifically with entrectinib, and it's rated minor.

Still, entrectinib is a cancer medicine where you want steady, full absorption, so it's worth being careful. A simple fix helps a lot: separate them by taking your entrectinib first, then wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum, and drink plenty of water. Please run your timing past your oncology team or pharmacist before combining them.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.

About Entrectinib

What Is Entrectinib Used For?

Brand name: Rozlytrek

Rozlytrek (entrectinib) is used to treat adult patients with ROS1-positive metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), as confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is also approved for adult and pediatric patients older than 1 month of age who have solid tumors — any cancer type — that carry an NTRK gene fusion detected by an FDA-approved test, provided the tumor has no known acquired resistance mutation, is metastatic or cannot be surgically removed without severe harm, and has progressed after prior treatment or has no satisfactory alternative therapy.

The NTRK gene fusion approval in solid tumors was granted under accelerated approval, meaning it is based on tumor response rates. Continued approval may depend on results from confirmatory clinical trials.
