Here's the gist with karaya gum and mirtazapine: this is a fiber-type laxative, and like any bulky fiber it can grab onto a pill in your stomach and slightly change how much of it gets absorbed. The effect could go either way (a little less, a little more, or none at all), so this is really a timing issue, not a dangerous combination. It's also a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not something proven to cause trouble with mirtazapine specifically.

Mirtazapine is an active drug (not a prodrug), so the main worry would be slightly weaker absorption if you took them right together. A simple fix is to take your mirtazapine first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum. If you have questions about your routine, your pharmacist can help you space them out.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. What Is Mirtazapine Used For?

Brand name: Remeron

Mirtazapine tablets, mirtazapine orally disintegrating tablets, Remeron, and RemeronsолTab are all indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. Major depressive disorder involves a persistently low or sad mood most days, often accompanied by loss of interest, sleep changes, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

The effectiveness of mirtazapine tablets in maintaining a response for up to 40 weeks after an initial treatment period has also been demonstrated. Patients should be reassessed periodically to determine whether continued treatment is needed.
