Dasiglucagon Hydrochloride falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Kousso interacts with.

Theoretically, kousso might have an additive effect with antidiabetes drugs and cause hypoglycemia. Animal research shows that kousso flower extract modestly decreases blood glucose levels in diabetic mice.
Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, metformin (Glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's something worth knowing about this pairing. Dasiglucagon (Zegalogue) actually does the opposite of most diabetes medicines. It's a rescue treatment that tells your liver to dump stored sugar into your blood to pull you out of a dangerous low. So it isn't lowering your blood sugar at all.

The interaction on file flags that kousso may modestly lower blood sugar, based only on animal research, so the evidence is weak and theoretical. In practice, if kousso nudged your sugar down a bit, it could in theory blunt how well dasiglucagon raises you back up during an emergency. That's not well proven, but since dasiglucagon is used in a true crisis, you don't want anything working against it. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What is Kousso?

Kousso is the dried flower of the African tree Hagenia abyssinica, used traditionally—especially in Ethiopia—to expel tapeworms. It was once listed in older pharmacopeias as a worm treatment, but it has largely been replaced by safer, more reliable modern medicines and can cause significant side effects. There is no good modern evidence supporting its use, so talk to a pharmacist or doctor before considering it.

What Is Dasiglucagon Injection Used For?

Brand name: Zegalogue

Zegalogue (dasiglucagon) is used to treat severe hypoglycemia — dangerously low blood sugar — in adults and children aged 6 years and older who have diabetes. It is a rescue medication meant to be used in emergencies when a person cannot eat or drink to raise their blood sugar on their own.

Zegalogue is available as a subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injection and is given by a caregiver or the patient themselves as soon as severe hypoglycemia is recognized. Emergency medical help should be called immediately after using it.
