Aripiprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lemongrass interacts with.

Theoretically, lemongrass might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the basic idea with lemongrass and aripiprazole (Abilify). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break aripiprazole down and clear it out. Lemongrass — mostly its citral component — has shown in lab and animal studies that it can slow that enzyme down. In theory, that means aripiprazole could hang around a bit longer and build up, nudging up its effects and side effects.

If that happened, you might notice more drowsiness, restlessness or an urge to keep moving, lightheadedness, or some mild tremor. That said, this is a theoretical concern based only on animal data, not human studies. A sprinkle of lemongrass in cooking or an occasional cup of tea is very unlikely to matter — concentrated capsules or the essential oil are where I'd be more cautious. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding those.
