Lemongrass + Oxybutynin
Oxybutynin brand names: Ditropan, Ditropan XL, Oxybutynin, Oxytrol, Anturol, and others.
Lemongrass has a moderate interaction with Oxybutynin. Theoretically, lemongrass might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Oxybutynin
Oxybutynin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lemongrass interacts with.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral inhibit CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear oxybutynin out of your system. Lab and animal studies suggest lemongrass (especially its citral compound) may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, oxybutynin could linger a bit longer and its effects could feel stronger.
For oxybutynin, that usually means more of its typical anticholinergic side effects: dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, drowsiness, or trouble emptying your bladder. Here's the reassuring part: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube and animal data, not human studies. The lemongrass you'd taste in cooking or a cup of tea is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are a different story, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using those regularly.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oxybutynin page
“Oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol, Gelnique) is an anticholinergic for overactive bladder, and its supplement interactions deserve genuine care rather than a quick skim. Most of the list comes down to drug levels: grapefruit juice can push oxybutynin higher and intensify its side effects, while St.”

About Oxybutynin
What Is Oxybutynin Used For?
Brand names: Ditropan, Ditropan XL, Oxybutynin, Oxytrol, Anturol, Gelnique
Oxybutynin treats overactive bladder — including the sudden urge to urinate, leaking before you can reach the bathroom (urge incontinence), and going too frequently. Extended-release tablets (Oxybutynin Chloride) and immediate-release tablets and oral solution (Oxybutynin Chloride) are used for these symptoms. Oxytrol is approved for overactive bladder in men; Oxytrol for Women is approved for overactive bladder in women aged 18 and older.
Extended-release tablets (Oxybutynin Chloride) are also approved for children 6 years and older who have bladder overactivity caused by a neurological condition, such as spina bifida. Immediate-release tablets and oral solution (Oxybutynin Chloride) are indicated for bladder instability symptoms — including urgency, frequency, urinary leakage, and painful urination — in patients with neurogenic bladder conditions.
