Here's the basic idea with Futibatinib (Lytgobi), a targeted cancer pill used for certain bile duct tumors. Your body clears this drug mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab and animal studies suggest that lemongrass, and especially its compound citral, may slow that same enzyme down. If that happens in people, Futibatinib could build up in your blood and push its side effects higher, things like dry mouth, nail and skin changes, hair thinning, diarrhea, fatigue, or shifts in your phosphate levels.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical and based on animal and test-tube work, not human studies. The small amounts of lemongrass in food or an occasional cup of tea are unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are the bigger question. Since Futibatinib is a serious medication, please run any lemongrass supplement by your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Futibatinib Used For?

Brand name: Lytgobi

Lytgobi (futibatinib) is used to treat adults with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma — a cancer that starts inside the bile ducts within the liver — that cannot be surgically removed and has spread locally or to other parts of the body. It is specifically for patients whose cancer has a gene change called an FGFR2 fusion or rearrangement, confirmed by testing, and who have already received prior treatment.

This approval is based on how many patients' tumors responded to Lytgobi and how long those responses lasted. Final confirmation of long-term benefit is still being studied in follow-up clinical trials.
