Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Levomilnacipran
Levomilnacipran falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lemongrass interacts with.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral inhibit CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear levomilnacipran (Fetzima) from your system. Lab and animal studies hint that lemongrass, mainly its citral compound, can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, more of the drug could linger in your blood, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like nausea, a faster heart rate, higher blood pressure, sweating, trouble sleeping, or constipation.
The important thing to know is that this is theoretical. It comes from test-tube and animal research, not real human studies. A bit of lemongrass in your cooking or an occasional cup of tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are a bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using those.
