Here's the short version on lemongrass and Tagrisso (osimertinib). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medication. Lab and animal studies suggest that lemongrass, and its lemony compound citral, may slow that enzyme down. If that happens in people, osimertinib could build up a bit more than expected, which might mean more of its usual side effects like diarrhea, mouth sores, skin rash, dry or splitting nails, fatigue, or low blood counts.

I want to be honest about the evidence: this is theoretical and comes from test-tube and animal work, not human studies. The pinch used in cooking or a cup of tea is unlikely to matter. Concentrated lemongrass supplements or the essential oil are a different story. Since osimertinib is a cancer medicine, please run any lemongrass supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Osimertinib

What Is Osimertinib Used For?

Brand name: Tagrisso

Tagrisso is used to treat adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have specific EGFR mutations — either an exon 19 deletion or an exon 21 L858R mutation — confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is used in several settings: after surgery to reduce the risk of cancer returning (adjuvant therapy), for locally advanced stage III NSCLC that has not progressed after chemoradiation, and as a first-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC (including in combination with pemetrexed and platinum-based chemotherapy).

Tagrisso is also approved for adults with metastatic NSCLC that carries a specific resistance mutation called T790M, when the cancer has stopped responding to another EGFR-targeted therapy.
