Here's the gist for Turalio (pexidartinib): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this drug from your body. Lemongrass, mostly because of a compound called citral, may slow that enzyme down. If it does, more pexidartinib could build up than expected, which might mean stronger side effects like nausea, fatigue, swelling, hair color changes, or, importantly, liver problems. Pexidartinib already carries a serious liver warning, so anything that raises its levels deserves caution.

I'll be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on lab and animal studies, not human research. A sprinkle of lemongrass in cooking or an occasional cup of tea is unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are the real question, so please check with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral induce uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT), the major phase 2 enzyme that is responsible for glucuronidation.

Your body partly clears pexidartinib (Turalio) by attaching a sugar molecule to it, a step called glucuronidation. The concern here is that lemongrass (and its lemony compound citral) may speed up the enzyme that does this. In theory, that could move pexidartinib out of your system a little faster and lower its levels, which might make it work less well against your tumor.

Keep this in perspective. This idea comes only from lab and animal studies, not from people, so it is far from proven. The small amount of lemongrass in food or an occasional cup of tea is unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are where I'd be more cautious. Pexidartinib already needs careful monitoring (especially for liver effects), so please run any lemongrass supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first.
