PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Tretinoin, Benzoyl Peroxide
Tretinoin, Benzoyl Peroxide falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Lime interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing with Twyneo (tretinoin plus benzoyl peroxide): it already makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Tretinoin thins the top skin layer and ramps up cell turnover, so you sunburn faster and may notice extra redness, peeling, or stinging. Lime juice and especially lime essential oil contain compounds (like certain furanocoumarins) that can also make skin react more strongly to sun, a reaction called phototoxicity.
So in theory, getting lime oil on your skin and then heading into the sun while using this cream could stack the irritation. I'll be honest, this concern is based mostly on lab data, not strong human studies, and a squeeze of lime in your drink isn't the worry. Just rinse off any lime that touches treated skin, wear sunscreen, and ask your pharmacist if you're unsure.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Tretinoin, Benzoyl Peroxide page
“Twyneo pairs tretinoin, a vitamin A derivative, with benzoyl peroxide in an acne cream, and its interaction list deserves genuine care. The single major-rated entry among the 35 supplements on file is vitamin A itself; stacking supplements on a drug built from vitamin A can push levels toward toxicity, so that pairing is the one to und…”

About Lime
What is Lime?
- Source of vitamin C
- Digestive upset
- Skin care
- Mood and aromatherapy
- Flavoring and food preservation
Lime is a common citrus fruit and a good natural source of vitamin C and plant antioxidants. As a food it is generally safe and enjoyed by most people, but evidence that lime treats any specific health condition is limited. Use the essential oil with care, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated lime products for health reasons.
