Here's the concern with pairing Manchurian Thorn and mercaptopurine. Mercaptopurine is already known to be tough on the liver, so doctors routinely check your liver enzymes while you're on it. In animal studies, high doses of Manchurian Thorn caused some liver damage too. So the worry is simple: stacking two things that can each stress the liver may add up and raise your risk.

That said, this is a theoretical interaction based on lab and animal data, not human reports, so I don't want to overstate it. Still, with a serious chemo drug like this one, I'd play it safe. Watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Please don't start this supplement without first running it by your oncology team or pharmacist.

Brand name: Purixan

Mercaptopurine — available as a tablet and as an oral suspension — is used to treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a type of blood cancer. It is given as part of a combination chemotherapy maintenance regimen, meaning it works alongside other cancer medicines to keep leukemia in remission.

Both the tablet form and the oral suspension form carry this indication for adult and pediatric patients. The oral suspension is particularly useful for patients who cannot swallow tablets.
