Marjoram and Mepolizumab

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Mepolizumab and Marjoram in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What to actually watch for

What Marjoram Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Mepolizumab. It is the side-effect record for Marjoram on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Marjoram, this list is the first place to look.

“Possible allergic contact dermatitis in children with pre-existing childhood atopic eczema was observed in a randomized clinical trial employing extended use of essential oils, including sweet marjoram essential oil. A case report describes a 38-year old woman who had an exacerbation of perioral dermatitis after eating food seasoned with marjoram.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Marjoram — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Mepolizumab’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Mepolizumab column appears here.

What Mepolizumab Is Prescribed For, and What Marjoram Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Mepolizumab is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Marjoram is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Mepolizumab is prescribed for: Nucala is used as an add-on maintenance treatment — meaning it works alongside other medications, not instead of them. It is approved for severe asthma (in patients 6 years and older with high eosinophil levels), chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) in adults 18 and older whose symptoms aren't controlled by nasal corticosteroids alone, and COPD in adults with an eosinophilic phenotype whose disease isn't adequately controlled. Nucala is also approved to treat eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), a rare form of blood vessel inflammation, and hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES), a condition involving dangerously elevated eosinophil counts, in adults and adolescents 12 and older. It is not meant to relieve sudden asthma attacks or acute COPD flares.

  • Asthma studied, not established Marjoram has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Marjoram for asthma

Preliminary clinical research in adults shows that taking marjoram oil 2 drops daily for 3 months along with conventional treatment for asthma improves some measures of lung function. Forced vital capacity (FVC) increased by 0.3 mL with marjoram compared to 0.1 mL in the control group. The forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) increased by 4.1% with marjoram compared to 2.7% with control.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Mepolizumab on your own; if you are taking Marjoram for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

About Marjoram

What is Marjoram?

Marjoram
  • Digestive upset
  • Sleep and relaxation
  • Respiratory complaints (cough, congestion)
  • Menstrual discomfort
  • Aromatherapy for stress

Marjoram is a Mediterranean kitchen herb related to oregano that is widely used in food and traditional medicine for digestive, sleep, and respiratory complaints. Most of its health claims rest on traditional use and small lab or animal studies rather than strong human trials. It is generally considered safe as a food, but concentrated supplements and essential oils should be used with caution and avoided in pregnancy.
