Here's something worth knowing about marshmallow root: its slippery mucilage fibers form a gel in your digestive tract, and in theory that gel can coat things and slow how well an oral medicine is absorbed. The concern listed here applies to drugs swallowed by mouth.

The good news for dinoprostone (Prepidil) is that this product isn't taken as a pill. It's a cervical gel placed by your doctor near term to help prepare for labor, so it doesn't pass through your stomach where marshmallow's gel would matter. That makes a meaningful interaction here very unlikely. This warning is theoretical and based on pharmacology, not real cases. Still, when you're at or near labor, keep any supplement use simple and let your care team know what you're taking.

What Is Dinoprostone Used For?

Dinoprostone is used to ripen (soften and open) an unripe cervix in pregnant women who are at or near term and need labor to be induced for medical or obstetric reasons.

Cervidil (vaginal insert) is indicated for initiating or continuing cervical ripening in pregnant women at or near term who have a medical or obstetrical reason for labor induction. Prepidil (vaginal gel) is indicated for ripening an unfavorable cervix in pregnant women at or near term who have a medical or obstetrical need for labor induction.
