Lepirudin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Mesoglycan interacts with.

Theoretically, combined use might increase bleeding risk. However, human evidence suggests that mesoglycan has profibrinolytic activity without affecting coagulation. These agents include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Lepirudin is a strong injectable blood thinner (a direct thrombin inhibitor) usually given in a hospital, often for people who can't take heparin. It works directly to stop clots from forming, so anything else that nudges your blood toward less clotting deserves a careful look.

Mesoglycan can have a mild blood-thinning side to it, so in theory stacking it with lepirudin could add to your bleeding risk. The honest news is that the human evidence is reassuring: mesoglycan seems to help break down clots a bit without really changing how your blood clots, so a big problem isn't likely. Still, watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or unusual bleeding, and let your doctor or pharmacist know you take mesoglycan before any lepirudin treatment.

Mesoglycan is a blend of natural sugar-protein compounds (glycosaminoglycans, including heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate) taken from animal tissue and used mainly for blood vessel and circulation problems. Some small studies suggest possible benefit for vein-related conditions, but the overall evidence is limited and not strong. Because it can affect blood clotting, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using it.
