Iloprost falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Mesoglycan interacts with.

Theoretically, combined use might increase bleeding risk. However, human evidence suggests that mesoglycan has profibrinolytic activity without affecting coagulation. These agents include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to know about pairing mesoglycan with iloprost (Ventavis). Iloprost doesn't just relax the blood vessels in your lungs, it also makes your platelets less sticky, so it has a mild blood-thinning side of its own. Mesoglycan contains heparin-like compounds that may also nudge your blood toward clotting a little less. Stack the two together and, in theory, you could see a slightly higher chance of bleeding or bruising.

That said, the human evidence here is reassuring. Studies suggest mesoglycan mainly helps break down clots without strongly changing normal clotting, so this is more a watch-and-be-aware situation than a red alert. Keep an eye out for easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding mesoglycan.

What is Mesoglycan?

Mesoglycan is a blend of natural sugar-protein compounds (glycosaminoglycans, including heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate) taken from animal tissue and used mainly for blood vessel and circulation problems. Some small studies suggest possible benefit for vein-related conditions, but the overall evidence is limited and not strong. Because it can affect blood clotting, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using it.

Aurlumyn (iloprost injection, given intravenously) is approved to treat severe frostbite in adults, specifically to reduce the risk of losing fingers or toes (digit amputations). Its effectiveness was established in young, healthy adults who experienced frostbite at high altitudes.
