Drug & supplement interaction

Mormon Tea + Semaglutide

Semaglutide brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Mormon Tea and Semaglutide in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Mormon Tea and Semaglutide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Semaglutide and Mormon Tea in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Mormon Tea at all — not against Semaglutide, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Mormon Tea safety at a glance

Mormon Tea overall Use caution Generally considered milder than Asian ephedra, but human safety data are limited.
Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety information, and ephedra-related plants are best avoided during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid There is no reliable safety data, so avoid use while breastfeeding.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Mormon Tea and Semaglutide May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Semaglutide page

“Semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy) lowers blood sugar, and so do most of the 256 supplements on this page, which is why I read this list with real vigilance rather than a shrug. Nearly all of the entries either add to its glucose-lowering effect and raise the risk of hypoglycemia, or push sugar the other way and blunt it, as niaci…”

About Mormon Tea

What is Mormon Tea?

  • Caffeine-free beverage
  • Kidney and urinary complaints
  • Cold and congestion relief
  • Mild digestive upset
  • General tonic

Mormon Tea is a traditional Southwestern desert beverage made from a North American Ephedra plant that, unlike Asian ephedra, is generally thought to lack ephedrine. There is very little modern scientific evidence to support any specific health benefit, so it is mostly used as a mild, caffeine-free herbal drink. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a medical condition.

Ephedra nevadensis · Ephedraceae · Dried stems and twigs · Tea (dried herb), capsules, loose dried stems

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Mormon Tea is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Mormon Tea record says about it on its own.

Mormon Tea: dosing

There is no established standardized dose for Mormon Tea. Traditionally, a small amount of dried stems is steeped in hot water and drunk as a tea, but the strength of homemade or commercial products can vary widely. If you choose to use it, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed them. Because the active content is uncertain, start low and avoid frequent or large amounts.

About Semaglutide

What Is Semaglutide Used For?

Brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy

Semaglutide is available as Wegovy (injection and tablet) and Ozempic (injection), and each product has its own approved uses. Wegovy injection is approved — alongside diet and exercise — to reduce excess body weight in adults and in children aged 12 and older with obesity, to lower the risk of serious heart events (heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death) in adults with obesity or overweight who also have established heart disease, and for treatment of a liver condition called MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, formerly called NASH) with moderate-to-advanced scarring in adults. Wegovy tablets share the cardiovascular risk reduction and weight management uses in adults, but are not approved for MASH or for use in children. Ozempic injection is approved to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise) and to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have established heart disease.

All forms are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Ozempic is not approved for type 1 diabetes. The MASH approval for Wegovy injection is an accelerated approval, meaning continued approval may depend on results from a confirmatory study.
