Here's the gist with Ortho-Prefest (estradiol plus norgestimate) and Oregon grape. Your body uses a pump called P-glycoprotein to help move certain hormones along. The berberine compounds in Oregon grape may slow that pump down, at least in lab dishes. In theory, that could let a bit more hormone hang around in your bloodstream, which might nudge up side effects like nausea, breast tenderness, bloating, headaches, or spotting.

I want to be honest though: this is only based on test-tube research, not real people, so we don't know if it amounts to anything you'd actually feel. Occasional supplement use is unlikely to be a big deal, but please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding Oregon grape regularly.
