Here's the thing to know if you're on Kombiglyze (saxagliptin plus extended-release metformin): this combo is already working hard to bring your blood sugar down. Oregon grape contains berberine, and good clinical research shows berberine can lower blood sugar on its own. So when you stack the two, the lowering effects can add up, and you may end up with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

Watch for the classic warning signs, like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, sudden hunger, or feeling foggy. This isn't about changing your medication on your own. If you're thinking about trying Oregon grape, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first so they can help you watch your numbers and adjust your plan safely.
