QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS
Why this applies to Zolmitriptan
Zolmitriptan falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Panax Ginseng interacts with.
Clinical research shows that short-term use of Panax ginseng can increase the QT interval. However, no changes in QT interval have been identified with prolonged use.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for combining Panax ginseng with your zolmitriptan (Zomig). Some short-term studies suggest ginseng can slightly stretch out the QT interval, which is the timing of your heart's electrical recovery between beats. Zolmitriptan can also have a small effect on heart rhythm in certain people, so the worry is that the two together might nudge that timing a bit more and, in theory, raise the chance of an irregular heartbeat.
I want to be honest though: this is mostly theoretical, and the research is mixed. Longer-term ginseng use hasn't shown the same QT change. For most healthy folks taking an occasional migraine dose, the real-world risk is likely low. Still, if you have a known heart rhythm issue or take other heart medicines, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Zolmitriptan page
“Zolmitriptan (Zomig) treats migraines by working on serotonin and tightening blood vessels, and that mechanism is exactly why this list deserves real vigilance. Twenty of the 50 supplements on file, including everyday items like 5-HTP and black cohosh, also raise serotonin, and stacking them on a triptan can push someone toward seroton…”

About Zolmitriptan
What Is Zolmitriptan Used For?
Brand name: Zomig
Zolmitriptan is used to treat migraine headaches as they happen — it is not a daily preventive medication. Tablets (including Zomig tablets) and orally disintegrating tablets are approved for acute migraine treatment in adults. Zolmitriptan nasal spray and Zomig Nasal Spray are also approved for adults and for adolescents 12 years of age and older.
It works for migraines with or without aura (the visual or sensory changes some people get before a headache). It is not approved for cluster headaches, and it should only be used once a migraine diagnosis has been clearly established by a healthcare provider.
