Why this applies to Aripiprazole

Aripiprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Peony interacts with.

Theoretically, use of peony may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that peony suppresses the metabolism of clozapine via weak-to-moderate inhibitory effects on CYP1A2 and CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear aripiprazole (Abilify). In lab and animal studies, compounds in peony root appear to gently slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, aripiprazole could build up a bit and its effects, both good and bad, might feel stronger. With this medicine that could mean more drowsiness, restlessness or an inner urge to keep moving (akathisia), dizziness, or nausea.

Here is the important part: this is only a theoretical concern. It comes from test-tube work with a different drug, not from real people taking peony and aripiprazole together. So I would not panic, but I would mention any peony product to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and watch how you feel.
