Here's the gist with peony and your birth control pills. Peony root contains plant compounds that, in lab dishes and animal studies, seem to act a little like estrogen and may latch onto the same estrogen receptors your pill works through. In theory, that could either nudge against how your pill behaves or add to estrogen-type side effects, things like breast tenderness, bloating, nausea, or mood changes.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on pharmacology, not on solid human studies. We don't have good evidence that peony actually weakens birth control or causes problems in real people. Still, because reliable contraception matters, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change anything on your own.
