Metoclopramide falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Phenethylamine (pea) interacts with.

Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with phenethylamine might increase the risk of serotonergic adverse effects.
Animal research shows that phenethylamine increases levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with phenethylamine might increase the risk of additive serotonergic adverse effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. However, low-quality clinical research has used phenethylamine with selegiline, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), with apparent safety.

Here's the gist: metoclopramide (Reglan) can gently nudge up serotonin activity in the body, and phenethylamine (PEA) is thought to raise serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine too. Stack them together and, in theory, those effects could add up. The worry is something called serotonin syndrome, which can show up as agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or feeling confused.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this concern comes mostly from animal data, so it's more theoretical than proven. Small studies have even combined PEA with similar drugs without obvious trouble. Still, since both can raise heart rate and blood pressure, I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you have heart concerns.

About Metoclopramide

What Is Metoclopramide Used For?

Brand names: Reglan, Metoclopramide Injection, Octamide

Metoclopramide tablets are used in adults for two main conditions. First, they treat symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux (GERD — when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus) in people who haven't gotten relief from standard treatments. Second, they ease symptoms of diabetic gastroparesis, a condition where nerve damage from diabetes causes the stomach to empty too slowly.

Treatment is meant to be short-term. For acid reflux, it's used for 4 to 12 weeks. For diabetic gastroparesis, it's generally used for 2 to 8 weeks. It is not recommended for children due to serious safety concerns.
