Nortriptyline falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Phenethylamine (pea) interacts with.

Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with phenethylamine might increase the risk of serotonergic adverse effects.
Animal research shows that phenethylamine increases levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with phenethylamine might increase the risk of additive serotonergic adverse effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. However, low-quality clinical research has used phenethylamine with selegiline, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), with apparent safety.

Here's the basic idea: nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that already nudges up your levels of norepinephrine and serotonin to help with mood. PEA is thought to push some of those same brain chemicals higher too. Stack them together and you could, in theory, get too much of a good thing, which is what we call serotonin syndrome (think agitation, sweating, shakiness, a racing heart, or confusion).

I want to be honest with you, though: this concern comes mostly from animal and lab studies, not strong human data, so it's more of a caution flag than a proven problem. Nortriptyline can also affect heart rhythm and blood pressure, and PEA may bump those up too, so the combo deserves a quick check. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
