Phenethylamine (pea) + Venlafaxine
Venlafaxine brand names: Effexor XR, Effexor.
Phenethylamine (pea) has a moderate interaction with Venlafaxine. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with phenethylamine might increase the risk of serotonergic adverse effects.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Venlafaxine
Venlafaxine falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Phenethylamine (pea) interacts with.
Animal research shows that phenethylamine increases levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with phenethylamine might increase the risk of additive serotonergic adverse effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. However, low-quality clinical research has used phenethylamine with selegiline, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), with apparent safety.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Effexor (venlafaxine) and PEA. Venlafaxine is an SNRI, so it already boosts serotonin and norepinephrine in your brain. PEA appears to nudge those same messengers upward. Stack the two and, at least on paper, you could get too much serotonin activity at once.
If that happened, you might notice agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shakiness, or higher blood pressure (and PEA alone can already bump up heart rate and blood pressure). Full-blown serotonin syndrome is rare but serious. To be fair, this concern comes from animal and lab data, not solid human studies, so it's more theoretical than proven. Venlafaxine is not a prodrug here, so this is about adding effects, not blocking them. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
