Defibrotide Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Propolis interacts with.

Theoretically, propolis might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro research shows that propolis water extract and the propolis constituent, caffeic acid phenethyl ester, can inhibit platelet aggregation. Additionally, evidence from an animal model shows that taking propolis in addition to warfarin decreases INR, suggesting that propolis can decrease the effectiveness of warfarin.

Here's the thing about defibrotide (Defitelio): it's a clot-preventing medicine given by IV in the hospital, usually for a serious liver problem after a stem-cell transplant. Because it lowers your blood's ability to clot, anything else that thins the blood can stack on top of it. Lab studies suggest propolis may make platelets a little less sticky, so in theory it could add to the bleeding risk and lead to things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or harder-to-stop bleeding.

I want to be honest that this concern comes from test-tube and animal research, not real patient studies, so it's more theoretical than proven. Still, since defibrotide is used in fragile, closely monitored patients, please let your transplant team or pharmacist know before taking any propolis product.

What Is Defibrotide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Defitelio

Defitelio (defibrotide injection) is used to treat hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) — also called sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) — in adult and pediatric patients. This is a serious condition where small blood vessels in the liver become blocked, most often after a hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT).

Defitelio is specifically indicated when VOD is accompanied by kidney dysfunction or pulmonary (lung) dysfunction, making it a treatment for one of the most severe forms of this complication.
