Defibrotide Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Aconite interacts with.

Theoretically, combining aconite with other antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Higenamine, a constituent of aconite, is thought to have antiplatelet and antithrombotic effects. In an animal model of thrombosis, higenamine inhibited platelet aggregation and reduced the size of thrombus formation.

Here's the simple version. Defibrotide is a powerful clot-preventing medicine given by IV in the hospital, usually for a serious liver complication after a stem-cell transplant. Aconite contains a compound called higenamine that, in lab and animal studies, seemed to thin the blood a little and slow down platelets. So if you stack the two together, the worry is too much blood-thinning, meaning easier bruising and a higher chance of bleeding, like nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or harder-to-stop bleeding.

I want to be straight with you, though. This is only a theoretical concern from early animal research, not something proven in people. The bigger issue is that aconite itself is genuinely poisonous and isn't safe to take. Please don't use any aconite product without first clearing it with your doctor or pharmacist.

What Is Defibrotide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Defitelio

Defitelio (defibrotide injection) is used to treat hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) — also called sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) — in adult and pediatric patients. This is a serious condition where small blood vessels in the liver become blocked, most often after a hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT).

Defitelio is specifically indicated when VOD is accompanied by kidney dysfunction or pulmonary (lung) dysfunction, making it a treatment for one of the most severe forms of this complication.
