In vitro and animal research suggests that a constituent of rose hip, rugosin E, can induce platelet aggregation. This has not been shown in humans. Theoretically, concomitant use of rose hip might reduce the effectiveness of antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.

Here's what matters with Fiorinal with Codeine: the aspirin part is a blood thinner that keeps platelets from clumping together. Rose hip contains a compound called rugosin E that, in lab and animal studies, seems to do the opposite and encourage platelets to stick. So in theory, concentrated rose hip supplements could blunt some of aspirin's clot-preventing effect.

I want to be honest, though: this has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never in people, so it's a weak, theoretical concern. Eating rose hip as a food or tea is very unlikely to matter. If you're taking this medication specifically to protect your heart or blood vessels, just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a rose hip supplement.

Theoretically, rose hip might reduce the clearance of aspirin; however, its vitamin C content is likely too low to produce clinically significant effects.
Rose hip contains vitamin C. It has been suggested that acidification of the urine by vitamin C can decrease the urinary excretion of salicylates, increasing plasma salicylate levels. However, short-term use of up to 6 grams daily of vitamin C does not seem to affect urinary pH or salicylate excretion. The vitamin C content of rose hip is typically about 500 mg per 100 grams. Thus, a clinically significant interaction between rose hip and aspirin is unlikely.

Here's the short version: this is a very minor concern, and mostly a theoretical one. The worry is that the vitamin C in rose hip could make your urine more acidic, which in theory might slow how your body clears the aspirin part of Fiorinal with Codeine. If salicylate levels crept up, you could in theory see more aspirin-type effects like stomach upset, ringing in the ears, or easier bruising.

In real life, though, the amount of vitamin C in rose hip is too small to nudge your urine pH or change aspirin levels in any meaningful way. Studies using even several grams of vitamin C daily didn't budge it. So I wouldn't lose sleep over this combo, but it's always smart to run your supplement list past your pharmacist or doctor.

Rose hip is the vitamin C–rich fruit of the wild rose, used traditionally for colds and joint pain. A standardized rose hip powder has some research support for easing osteoarthritis symptoms, but evidence for most other uses is limited.
