ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Telmisartan, Amlodipine

Animal research suggests that royal jelly might lower blood pressure.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Twynsta combines two blood pressure medicines: telmisartan (an ARB) and amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker). Both already work to lower your blood pressure. The concern here is simple addition. Some animal studies hint that royal jelly might gently lower blood pressure on its own, so stacking it on top of Twynsta could, in theory, push your numbers down a little too far.

Keep in mind this is only a theoretical worry, based on animal research, not solid human studies. If it did add up, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when standing up quickly. That's usually easy to spot at home with a blood pressure cuff. Before adding royal jelly, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and let them know if you're allergic to bees.

Royal jelly is a nutrient-rich substance made by worker bees to feed the queen bee. It is generally well tolerated by most people, but it can cause serious allergic reactions, especially in those allergic to bees or with asthma.
