Tazemetostat Hydrobromide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Sage interacts with.

Theoretically, sage might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro evidence suggests that aqueous extracts of sage can inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear tazemetostat (Tazverik). In lab dish studies, water-based sage extracts seemed to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in a person, tazemetostat could build up to higher levels than expected, which in theory might make its side effects more noticeable. With this drug that could mean more tiredness, nausea, low blood counts, or a higher risk of infection.

Here is the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube work, and it has never actually been reported in people. Sage sprinkled on food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated sage capsules or oil are a different story, so before adding any sage supplement, please run it by your oncology team or pharmacist first.

Sage is a common kitchen herb that is generally safe in food amounts and is traditionally used for sore throats, digestion, sweating, and memory. Some early research is encouraging for sore throat and menopausal hot flashes, but most uses are not well proven. Concentrated extracts and the essential oil should be used carefully because high doses contain a compound called thujone, which can be harmful.

What Is Tazemetostat Used For?

Brand name: Tazverik

Tazverik (tazemetostat) tablets are used to treat adults and patients aged 16 and older with metastatic or locally advanced epithelioid sarcoma (a rare soft-tissue cancer) that cannot be completely removed by surgery.

Tazverik is also used in adults with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma — meaning the lymphoma has come back or stopped responding to treatment — either when the tumor carries a specific EZH2 gene mutation (confirmed by an FDA-approved test) after at least two prior treatments, or when there are no other satisfactory treatment options. Both uses were approved based on response rates, and continued approval may depend on results from ongoing confirmatory studies.
