Drospirenone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Syrian Rue interacts with.

Theoretically, Syrian rue might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Syrian rue contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmol, and harmane. In vitro research suggests that these beta-carboline alkaloids competitively inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes.

Drospirenone, the progestin found in some birth control pills (and used on its own as a contraceptive), is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest the harmala alkaloids in Syrian Rue can slow that enzyme down. If that happens in real life, drospirenone could linger a bit longer in your body, which might bump up its usual effects and side effects, things like breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, or mood changes.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based on test-tube data, not actual cases in people. Drospirenone also slightly raises potassium, and Syrian Rue is a risky plant on its own, so I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them rather than guessing.

What is Syrian Rue?
