Nimodipine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Syrian Rue interacts with.

Theoretically, Syrian rue might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Syrian rue contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmol, and harmane. In vitro research suggests that these beta-carboline alkaloids competitively inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes.

Here's the gist with nimodipine: your liver relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear it out. Lab studies suggest the harmala alkaloids in Syrian rue can slow that same enzyme down. If that happens in real life, nimodipine could build up in your blood and hit harder than expected.

Since nimodipine relaxes blood vessels, too much of it can drop your blood pressure too low, leaving you dizzy, lightheaded, flushed, or with a pounding headache. That matters a lot here, because people on nimodipine are usually recovering from a brain bleed and need steady blood pressure. To be fair, this concern comes only from test-tube research, not human studies, so it's theoretical. Still, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before mixing these.

There is little reliable human evidence that it safely treats any condition, and it carries real risks of toxicity, so it is not recommended for self-treatment. What Is Nimodipine Used For?

Brand names: Nimotop, Nymalize

Nimodipine — available as capsules and oral solution — is used to improve neurological outcomes after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a type of bleeding that occurs around the brain when an intracranial berry aneurysm ruptures. It works to reduce the incidence and severity of ischemic deficits (areas of the brain damaged by reduced blood flow) that can follow this kind of bleed.

This use applies across nimodipine capsules, nimodipine oral solution, and Nymalize oral solution. It is indicated for adult patients regardless of how severe their neurological condition is at the time treatment begins.
