Here's the gist for tarragon and Felbamate. Felbamate is a seizure medicine that can quiet brain activity, and on its own it sometimes leaves people feeling tired, dizzy, or a little off-balance. The concern here is that concentrated tarragon (think essential oil or strong extracts, not the pinch you sprinkle on chicken) might add to that drowsiness and make those effects more noticeable.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is: it comes from animal research using injected tarragon oil, not from people taking it by mouth. So it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Cooking with tarragon is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're thinking about a tarragon supplement or oil, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first, and never adjust your felbamate on your own.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
