CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Hydrocodone Bitartrate
Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tarragon interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: hydrocodone is a strong opioid that already slows down your brain and body, causing things like drowsiness, slowed breathing, dizziness, and trouble concentrating. The concern with tarragon is that, in animal studies, its essential oil seemed to add to that kind of sedation. So in theory, layering a concentrated tarragon supplement or essential oil on top of hydrocodone could leave you feeling extra sleepy or foggy.
I want to be honest about how weak this evidence is. This comes from lab and animal research, not from people, and the doses studied were far beyond anything you'd ever swallow. Tarragon used in normal cooking is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated extracts or the essential oil are where I'd be cautious. Since hydrocodone is serious medication, run any tarragon supplement past your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Tarragon
What is Tarragon?
- Digestive upset
- Appetite stimulation
- Sleep and mild restlessness
- Toothache and oral discomfort
- Blood sugar support (preliminary)
- Culinary flavoring
Tarragon is a flavorful culinary herb that has been used in traditional medicine for digestion, sleep, and other complaints, but solid human evidence for any health benefit is lacking. Amounts used in cooking are generally considered safe, while concentrated extracts and the essential oil should be used cautiously because tarragon contains estragole, a compound studied for possible safety concerns. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using tarragon as a supplement.
