Gabapentin enacarbil falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tarragon interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of tarragon with CNS depressants, including antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and tricyclic antidepressants, may increase sedative and other adverse effects.

Here's the short version for Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil): this is a medicine that already calms the nervous system, so it can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and a bit of clumsiness or unsteadiness on its own. Tarragon, when used as a concentrated essential oil, has shown sedative and motor effects in animal studies. The worry is that piling the two together could deepen that sleepiness or make you feel more off-balance.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This is only a theoretical concern based on animal research, not human cases. Tarragon sprinkled on your food is very unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated extracts or the essential oil are where I'd be more cautious. If you're considering tarragon supplements alongside Horizant, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Gabapentin

What Is Gabapentin Used For?

Brand name: Horizant

Gabapentin (brands include Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, Gralise, and Horizant) is primarily used to manage postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) — the nerve pain that lingers after a shingles outbreak — in adults. Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, and gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used as add-on therapy for partial onset seizures (a type of epilepsy) in adults and children aged 3 and older.

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil extended-release tablet) has two specific approvals: treatment of moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in adults, and management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Horizant is not recommended for people who need to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Gralise is approved only for postherpetic neuralgia and cannot be substituted for other gabapentin products due to its different release profile.
