Lepirudin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Tarragon interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that tarragon extract inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion. Theoretically, tarragon might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Lepirudin (Refludan) is a powerful injectable blood thinner given in the hospital, usually for people with a condition called heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. It works by directly blocking thrombin, a key player in clotting. Tarragon isn't broken down or activated the same way, so this isn't an enzyme issue. Instead, lab studies hint that concentrated tarragon extract may make platelets a little less sticky, which could add to Lepirudin's blood-thinning power.

Put simply, stacking the two might nudge your bleeding risk higher, think easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums. Keep in mind this is only theoretical and based on test-tube work, and normal cooking amounts of tarragon are very unlikely to matter. Still, since Lepirudin is closely monitored, mention any tarragon supplements to your care team.
