ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Vildagliptin
Vildagliptin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Weight Watchers Diet interacts with.
Hypoglycemia has occurred in a small number of patients with type 2 diabetes who are taking antidiabetes medications and following the Weight Watchers Diet. Dose adjustments of antidiabetes medications might be necessary for some people.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind: this isn't really about a chemical clash. The Weight Watchers (WW) program works by changing how and what you eat, and that's exactly why it matters with vildagliptin (Galvus). As you cut calories and lose weight, your body often becomes more sensitive to your diabetes medicine. Your blood sugar may run lower than it used to, which can tip you into hypoglycemia.
Watch for shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, or sudden hunger. Vildagliptin alone rarely causes lows, but pairing it with steady weight loss can lower your numbers enough that your dose needs adjusting. Please don't change anything on your own. Let your doctor or pharmacist know you're starting WW so they can check your blood sugars and tweak your medication if needed.

Natural Medicines records Vildagliptin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Weight Watchers Diet — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
