White Pepper + Norgestrel
Norgestrel brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21.
White Pepper has a moderate interaction with Norgestrel. In vitro evidence suggests that piperine, a constituent of white pepper, inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4).

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Norgestrel
Norgestrel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group White Pepper interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down norgestrel, the progestin in your birth control pill. Piperine, the compound that makes white pepper spicy, has been shown in lab dishes to slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more progestin linger in your system, which might mean slightly stronger hormone effects like spotting, breast tenderness, headaches, or mood changes.
The important thing to know is this is theoretical, based only on test-tube research, not on real people. The white pepper you sprinkle on food is very unlikely to affect your pill. Concentrated piperine supplements are a bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using one.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Norgestrel page
“Norgestrel (Ovrette) is a progestin-only birth control pill, so the biggest danger on this page is not a strange side effect but a pill that quietly stops working. That risk makes this a page for genuine vigilance.”

About White Pepper
What is White Pepper?
- Digestive upset
- Seasoning and appetite support
- Cough and cold remedies (traditional)
- Minor aches and pains (traditional)
- Antimicrobial (traditional)
White pepper comes from the same plant as black pepper and is mostly used as a kitchen spice. In normal food amounts it is generally safe for most people, but there is little solid human research supporting its use as a medicine. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a health condition.
About Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives
What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?
Brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21
Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.
When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.

Norgestrel Is Linked to Lower Levels of 2 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Norgestrel as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with White Pepper — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
