Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist with this combo. Wild carrot contains plant compounds that can make your skin a little more sensitive to sunlight. Ibuprofen (an NSAID) can also occasionally trigger sun sensitivity on its own, so the thought is that using both together might add up and make you sunburn a bit more easily than usual. The acetaminophen part of this product isn't really a sun-sensitivity concern.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is a theoretical concern based on how these things behave, not something proven in real people. For most folks it's a minor issue. If you do spend time outdoors, simple steps like sunscreen, a hat, and shade go a long way. Have a quick chat with your pharmacist if you have any worries.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen page

“Advil Dual Action pairs ibuprofen, an NSAID with built-in stomach-bleeding risk, and acetaminophen, which the liver processes, so this interaction list deserves a careful read, not a skim. Most of the entries can add to bleeding risk, while smaller clusters put extra strain on the liver or kidneys.”

About Wild Carrot

What is Wild Carrot?

Wild Carrot
  • Urinary and bladder complaints
  • Digestive upset and gas
  • Menstrual support
  • Supporting milk production
  • Mild diuretic (water pill) effect

Wild carrot is a traditional herb (the wild ancestor of the garden carrot) used mostly for urinary, digestive, and menstrual complaints. High-quality human studies are lacking, so its benefits are unproven, and it should be avoided in pregnancy because of traditional use to affect the uterus. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
