Here's the thing to know about pairing wine with fluconazole: both are processed by your liver, and fluconazole is one of those antifungals that can occasionally stress liver function on its own. Adding alcohol to the mix can stack onto that strain. This isn't about wine changing how strong the drug feels. It's about giving your liver two jobs at once and raising the odds of liver irritation, especially with regular or heavier drinking.

Watch for signs like unusual tiredness, nausea, belly pain on your upper right side, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. An occasional small glass is far less concerning than steady or heavy drinking, but since this is a real, agreed-upon concern, please check with your pharmacist or doctor about what's safe for you, particularly on longer courses.

What Is Fluconazole Used For?

Brand names: Diflucan, Diflucan Injection

Fluconazole treats several fungal infections. These include Candida infections of the mouth, throat and esophagus (the tube from the throat to the stomach), and cryptococcal meningitis (a fungal infection of the lining around the brain).

Vaginal yeast infections are a labeled use of the tablets (Diflucan and fluconazole tablets) and of products labeled for both tablets and suspension. They are not listed for fluconazole oral suspension on its own or for the intravenous (IV) products. All products are also used to lower the chance of candidiasis in people having chemotherapy and/or radiation before a bone marrow transplant.
