Alprazolam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Zizyphus interacts with.

Theoretically, zizyphus might cause additive sedative effects when taken with CNS depressants.
Some animal research has found that various parts of zizyphus have sedative effects. However, other animal research shows that zizyphus plant extract does not alter sleep parameters when used in combination with pentobarbital.

Here's the simple version: Xanax (alprazolam) already calms the brain to ease anxiety and panic. Zizyphus, or jujube, has long been used as a gentle, calming remedy, and some of its natural compounds may add a little to that sleepy effect. So in theory, taking the two together could stack their relaxing actions, which might leave you feeling more drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or less steady on your feet than usual.

I'll be honest, this concern comes mostly from animal studies and is theoretical, with mixed results, so it may not amount to much, especially with jujube as a food. Eating the fruit is unlikely to be a problem. Still, if you want to try a concentrated supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Alprazolam

What Is Alprazolam Used For?

Brand names: Xanax, Niravam

Alprazolam treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, in adults. These uses are supported across multiple alprazolam products, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, oral solution, and extended-release tablets.

Xanax (tablet) is indicated for the acute treatment of GAD and for panic disorder. Xanax XR (extended-release tablet) and alprazolam extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia — not for GAD. Alprazolam orally disintegrating tablets and alprazolam oral solution are indicated for both GAD and panic disorder.
